anyone watch it tonight? should have thought dom would try and get facts and terminology correct before going on air.

I saw it. I thought Dom could have researched the terminology correct. The wiring of the outside light was terrible although I liked the way he used his crutches to turn on the RCD! His building working was unbelievably bad

but to say the outside light should have been notified was wrong. even though it was a pig's dick

On fabric on building.... Not notifiable?

correct. fixed equipment attached to the building with no exposed connections.... not notifiable. ( exception is, of course an outside socket outlet)

I have to say, i utterly despise this program and all those involved with it.

I have never seen anything so scripted and false.

The presenters (as pointed out above), actually have no knowledge of building work what so ever.

IIRC they have already made errors which they have been pulled to task on.

"For Entertainment Purposes Only" should be flashed up at the start of every episode.

When Dom said that i thought he had meant a non fused spur but it did look to have a spur present, I loved how the guy got the cable in the patras box by just smashing the conner out lol

was it a FCU or a socket? i couldn't make it out. and what was the fat controller in a suit from napit doing with his tester? if it was wired directly into a socket outlet, the circuit should have been de-energised and left off until the offending cable had been removed.

My favourite bit was when Mel offered to get on her knees for some bloke in a furnishings shop.

He didnt look too bothered

I repeted that line to my brother while we were watching it and he still didant get it, your right tel it might of been a single socket that would explain the presence of the red and black cable.

quote dom "anyone doing these works should be a part p electrician" ffffffsssssss, always going to be lost in translation this one.

Didn't he also mension that the electrician should be registered with NAPIT? Oh well at least it wasn't NICEIC this time.

They could do with getting it right. Good luck finding a NAPIT or Part P registered spark in Northern Ireland or Scotland where the program also is shown. Could do with getting a lot more factual information right it seems as well.

Isn't Dom an ex used car sales man?

Think its time that the nic/elecsa/napit teamed up to make a factual consumer type program about this to show the population, obviously a lot will switch channels but if just 10% of the terrestrial viewers watched then word might spread a little,or then again maybe not.but something hit me earlier watching this, what do we all pay £430 a year for?????answers on a postcard

Could do with educating some sparkies on it too. Part P only affects England & Wales - I'd never hear of it when I went to London in 2008 and I doubt I'm alone. TBH most of the sparks I worked with in London hadn't heard of it either. What chance has the consumer got really?

When it comes to Gas - everyone knew of Corgi and then Gas Safe. And not many try and do there own. Something like £175+VAT to be registered, that's value for money.

£175+vat,is that it and as you say everyone knows gas safe(or corgi in old money),these schemes are not using our money to best effect.

I only found out about part P when I did some work on a council house. It took me a long time and a lot of internet searching to figure out what it was all about.Been registered 2 years now with ELECSA.

Agree it was a ****e program....but the light may have been notifyable as it was fed from the kitchen, and therefore may be classed as an alteration to a kitchen circuit?

Point is was it said to be dangerous ? Would of thought not as Napit would of said so

It was rcd protected at least but did look like a dogs dinner

Tin hat and round shoulders out lol

Yep...lot of errors on the program, when something like this is aired on which we have enough knowledge to pick holes in it.... it makes you wonder how many programs on the telly which we have no knowlege of and take as fact...are equally full of holes.

Thought the light was fed from a bedroom socket

The problem with Part P every one appears to think it's a qualification, even last night it was said he was not "Part P qualified"

May be the solution to avoid confusion is to get rid of Part P and the schemes that register everyone who applies and get back to basics and go down the Corgi / Gas Safe route that is black and white and doesn't cause confusion

I wired a outside light a few months ago, spurred witha fcu, from the upstairs ring, fcu sited next door to a socket in the master bedroom.............should I be worried that I'm about to have a little bald umpa lumpa banging on my door?

Well, so let's do better. I know a few commisioning editors (one of the perks of the ex job) so I'll see what their thoughts are. '999 Tradesmen' (or somesuch) - pretty cheap to make TV following an assortment of bona-fide experienced tradesmen (even plumbers) around for a few weeks as we come rushing to the aid of Mrs Jones and her husbands failed attempt to change a light fitting. I reckon it could actually catch on - seriously! The viewing public likes nothing better than to be entertained by the misfortunes of others, and it would be a great way to present the other side of the story and correct some facts.

Can anyone think of a downside?

That's a fantastic price nearly half what they other charge and about 1k cheaper than BSI....

I want to know if anyones bitten the bullet any tried them yet........

ANY TAKERS?

agreed today, can't see how I loose, I will be about a days' pay up when I renew.

They agreed to register me for free for the remaining months I am with another scheme too, which was sensible.
