I have just served my time as an electrician in a chemical plant, I feel like the hourly rate that I have been offered is lower than the going rate, just wondering if anyone could give me any advice? They’ve offered me £8.49 an hour.
The company I work for isn’t JIB registered so don’t have to follow their rates.
The qualification I have gained is EAL Level 3 NVQ extended diploma in installation and commissioning.

Many thanks..

My first-year adult apprentice earns more than that. Tell them to stick their job up their arse and find work with an employer who will value your skills and pay you what you're what worth. You will be prostituting yourself if you work for this mob.

I was going to give a dislike but rather give my view which is I wouldn't advise anyone to tell their current employer to stick it (with few exceptions) until they have further employment.

The OP will ultimately make his own decision regardless of what you or I or anyone else advises him to do. He has to decide whether to swallow his pride, remain with his current e̶x̶p̶l̶o̶i̶t̶e̶r̶ employer and work for the derisory wage of £8.49 an hour, or as Tes369 advised him to do, "raise your index finger and middle finger In the forward facing position." Amen.

Hopefully Dodge 26 will soon make good on his offer of employment and Harry can then tell his Scrooge boss where to stick his job. The lad is quite clearly being exploited. Bosses who exploit their staff suck.

To the OP its an absolute insult paying that rate.
The petro/ chemical industry is a specialised field and if you have done your time in this field fair play to you and dont even think twice about working for that hourly rate. Check what testing and commissioning electricians are earning and you will be surprised at the rate they will be being payed. It is always advisable to leave a company on good terms send out your c.v to other companies and be honest by clearly stating you are newly qualified and looking to further your knowledge/experience. Remember it is a specialised field if what you say is true and a lot of companies will probably be very interested in you.
Good luck I know what i would do if I had your qualifications in this field.
