Hi (Im DIY - with an electrician to install), does anyone know a UK supplier of IP rated lightup LED tiles suitable for permanent outside use (dancefloor)? 600mm x 600mm. Thanks, Ian @ Wilby NN8 2UE

Sounds like a fairly specialist application.

Straight forward lights, or actual on/off in time with music like a dance floor?

I’m thinking Michael Jackson Billie Jean video???

Hi, yes exactly. Music activated and flashing, with half inside and half outside an inside/outside dancefloor with a flush door threshold across the middle. Thanks

I would expect “indoor” dancefloors to be fairly waterproof… to take nightclub beer spillages…

As for suppliers, I don’t know. Something for @Rockingit ?

There's a multitude of challenges with this, much dependant on the ultimate use and whether it's private or commercial use.

For starters is 5kN/m2 required distributed loading - most thick acrylics will do that without too many problems but then you also have to consider the actual frames and sub-structures. Next is the interesting topic of slips and spills - you can't have a surface that's polished or it's a death-trap (and also Stilletto's will scratch it anyway). So you've now got heavy slabs of frosted (micro-etched) acryclic sheet that you want to light up. That's easy enough with a distributed LED RGBW tape running from multiple DMX drivers using something like Madrix running from some mapping software and STL triggers.

Have you run out of money yet? I'm not aware of anyone who installs these as permanent installs simply due to the hassle of the upkeep (which isn't to say nobody does...) but there are loads of manufacturers of temporary systems - I'd start with someone like JP Leisure.
