Discuss rcd's retrospective on socket circuits in the Canada area at ElectriciansForums.net

can anyone clarify if rcd protection is required retrospectively on ring main/socket circuits in industrial premises.

I have been given a job to clear up snags on a periodic inspection, the lack of rcd protection is given as a failure on a number of circuits.

it's not a problem, i would replace a number of DB with new ones with prob rcbo's to avoid nuisance tripping.

Just don't want to charge customer if not required.

Cant find the reg in the book with regards to retrospectivity

any help much appreciated

Hi my view is that if its a pir pre 17th which it must be, any socket outlet capable of supplying equipment for use outside should be rcd protected. This is regardless of installation. The 17th edition is more strict with the use of rcds.It maybe possible just to protect a circuit rather than change a board.
