Hello all,

I am currently looking to install a new socket in the hall, spurred off the ring main. The socket will be installed in a stud wall.

On the other side of the wall is our downstairs toilet and then the garage (where the easiest access to the ring main can be found). However, running a cable to the garage will either involve running a cable along the top of the skirting board or around the top of the wall. Ideally, I'd like to run it along the skirting board, but this will take me past the back of the toilet. Is it acceptable to run T+E past the back of the toilet?

Also, is it acceptable to just use cable clips or should I use conduit (not a fan of conduit, TBH)? Is it better to put an FCU in the ring main or to just spur off with a junction box?

I can't pull the floor up and run cables under it because it's covered in Laminate.

Many thanks,

Matt

Yes

Both are acceptable but conduit IMHO looks neater

Either. FCU allows you to add further sockets at a later date if required. J/B not ideal but can be used --- needs to be accessible for future inspection/testing (i.e. dont hide it away somewhere!)

you can get conduit that looks like the top bit of skirting board, in various colours. This may or may not be of use or interest to you, but if you don't like normal mini trunking, this could clintch the deal.

It will look rubbish clipped above the skirting board. The trick with trunking (& many other things in life) is to do it neatly. You'll never see it if done well.

hope it goes well sorry can't find a link to the fancy skirting trunking

hang on, I lied...

a bit like 2 yuppie salesmen talking, this thread title. 1 salesman is a bidet and the other is a toilet ( both typical salesmen) and the bidet says to the toilet " let me run this past you"
