First time poster here.

Time served electrician here in Scotland with nvq level 3. My ecs gold card expired back in 2017 and I intend to do my 18th edition at some point. My question is if I start up myself I understand I can’t work on construction sites. What else can I or can’t I do in relation to signing off work before I get round to sitting the course.

Cheers

I had the same issue. Although I’d done the 18th, the appropriate H&S certificate, my local council wouldn’t allow any test certs until I had the actual renewed SJIB card…

When you say local council is that work on council properties or for building warrant tests etc?

For building warrants, completion certificates.
Some councils may also require CPS membership.

This came to light recently as I did an EICR to cover work that had been done on a property 13 years ago, and the electrician at the time hadn’t furnished them with any… and customer wanted to sell the house.
That must have been brought up by sellers solicitor.. and the EICR only covered the building work that had been done at the time… the majority of the house wasn’t touched, so wasn’t tested. It only proved the ‘recent’ work was up to regs…. Or, as they were 13 years ago. A few C3’s

The LABC first lost the report that was sent, then “demanded” a carbon dioxide alarm be fitted… when there was no requirement. (Dioxide, not monoxide, and it’s a 150 year old house with single glazing. No trouble with inadequate ventilation)
