single or double pole sockets

they wouldn't sell single pole if they were illegal of course, but that doesn't mean they are a good buy.

OK, you may save 50p per point - so is it worth it or are you fitting 50+ - which would only be £25.00

And if you have problems later with RCD's you'll have to unplug everything too.

The Regs should be pushing for DP switches IMHO.

single pole are perfectly adequate and permitted, double pole are better but slightly more.
