Had a few probs with one. Sounded like a phase down. Checked centrifugal switch (full of crap) ran fine without load/gearbox. Put a 4"x4" timber on shaft and stood on it (18 stone) ran fine (load test:rolleyes:) Lesson learned, I need to put weight on:D . Outcome-start cap U/S under working load, not fatty me. Centrifugal switch kicking in and out causing clattering... Took me a hour to sort this, what a dope! I hate single phase motors, especially in a shed with 11,000 hens!!!!!!:(

Single phase motor

''Sounded like a phase down'' if it had a phase down the would be NO POWER to motor at all?

It appears to me that single phase motor problems almost always end up being the capacitor :)

I don't know what a single phase motor sounds like with a phase down.
Simon and Garfunkel made a record of such a machine, but I can't remember how it goes -;)
