I have CU replacement to do and would appreciate any suggestions anyone has on best small CU. The current set up is an old 6-way re-wireable Wylex in the back of a small cupboard the customer wants to keep. I have about 300mm width to play with, depth and height are okay.

I'll need 8 way if I'm going to add the required expansion space.

TLC do the Contactum CP range. They do cheap RCBOs, so that's a possible option - but Googling CP range I have found some not very flattering comments about its quality!

Can anyone offer suggestions of a small CU - and any experience of CP range in particular?

Thanks

If you google Fix-o-rail by GE it will let you download a pdf file, the file is too big to load onto here, and there are several small enclosures that may do you, you'll just have to build the panel, might though make it expensive but if that is what the client wants.

Thanks guys. ... I think I'll pass on the idea of mounting the CU on its side - it may be technically okay, but will look incredibly naff - not something I'd want to put my sticker on :-) The Wylex with RCBOs may be my best bet, I'm figuring putting 5 circuits on one RCD, then the lights (there's only one light circuit) and smoke on an RCBO. I'll wait a bit longer to see if anyone's used these Contactum CP units.

It has its benefits when it is on its side in a cupboard, it is easier to read the legends on the MCB's when you duck you head in to look at it, instead of crouching down. But i agree its not how i would choose to fit one, but if needs must then that is how it has to be.

Cheers.......Howard
