Been asked to supply 13a sockets to 2 positions round a sports facility. The expected load is small, but the length of cable run is fairly long. I’ll probably be using 10mm2 2core with the swa as cpc.

They have had problems with kids etc gaining access after hours and fiddling with things etc so I was thinking of locating the sockets inside a lockable steel enclosure (any recommendations on brands to use/avoid?). I was then thinking that these things may get used in the rain, so do I price for IP66 sockets and accept the enclosure door will be left open? Or do I go for plastic/metal clad and find some way to shut the enclosure/cabinet door on the lead/drill a big hole in it.

Also given there are 2 points on the circuit, each with 2 sockets, how do I terminate the 10mm2 into the sockets. Maybe I could step it down to 2.5mm2 in a steel adaptable box inside the enclosure that I would gland the cables into? What to use to make the connection between 10mm2 and 2.5mm2.

I’m sure someone will come up with a good idea, I feel like I’m going round in circles here. Think having a 6 month old is catching up with me!

Thanks

Use din rail connectors to reduce the size of the cable.

You could fit an isolator internally in a suitable location so that the sockets can be isolated when not in use to prevent unauthorised use.

I'd use a GRP enclosure rather than steel if possible as they don't rust, steel enclosures need to have any damage to the paint fixed regularly or else they will rust.

Most wholesalers will have a range of suitable enclosures with hinged doors and mounting plates on the shelf with standard 'rittal' key camlocks, or you could pay a premium and get genuine Rittal enclosures.
