Looking at one from Toolstation for about £22 and then another tenner for 5 inserts. Its 110mm rather than 127mm diameter. Got to try and find where cables come up under an upstairs floor. Any comments as to whether a good buy or not?

I like the idea that it cuts a recess around which you can stick a line of sealant (intumescent?) before you lay the cover in - smoke paths and all that. I am a little worried about what the "proper" cutter does to the strength of the board though - I think the covers are 11mm thick so in a 19mm (3/4") chipboard floor it worries me leaving just 10mm of board to take a point load of a bed or table leg! The 2" x 1" batten idea wins that one! I can see myself buying one just cos I love a gadget - it can live with the Armeg box sinking kit! :smile5:

Clicon, only just seen this thread other wise i would've replied earlier. i bought the kit from toolstation, and thought it was dogs danglies for the first two holes, then when i went to use it again, the bits that do the recess / lip had dropped off! So, it crap i'm afraid. i am left with a box of lids i cant use. Then i got the Armeg one - probably twice the price ( and the bigger discs ) but worth the extra - and much better than using a piece of wood to support the hole, although much more expensive

Thanks for coming back. I went the cheapo route for now, used a 127mm Starrett cutter and a piece of 3" x 1" screwed to it. I routed the top of the "infill" circle then once screwed in I filled the gap with intumescent mastic. All my T&G chipboard floors are only 19mm. When I redo them in 22mm boards I'll invest in an Armeg cutter. Only had a few to do this time. Cheers.

if you're going to redo the floors, why the hell do you want to use weetabix again? get down to the nearest demolition yard and buy some proper 6" floorboards, none of the new metric crap.

gut the joists and give them one high ceiling, tel... what do you say, what tool are we on about, does it look good is the box in comes in flashy like a fruit machine
