Hi all.

I'm currently renovating a house and have one particular requirement I'd like, if possible, sme suggestions.

One of the things I would like to do is put in stair edge lighting. I have found some nice ULV LED spots that I want to put into the stringer on the wall side. Now this is only 15mm deep, so, they have to be very low profile.

If this was the total requirement I would have no problems, but... You all knew a but was coming!

What I want to do is have them switched at the top and bottom by PIR's at floor level. this has a couple of problems. So, suggestions welcome.

- I have very little depth so was looking at using something like these:

ABB 6811 EB-500 - http://new.abb.com/products/ABB.DEBJE6800-0-2517

PDFMMINIL - 360° Flush Mount Linkable Mini PIR Sensor | Timeguard - http://www.timeguard.com/products/light/pir-presence-detectors/360-flush-mount-linkable-mini-pir-sensor

But they are too deep.

The actual requirements are:

- They need an ambient light sensor, so, only activate below 50-70 lux, and, have a timer set to about 1 min.

- I'm worried about strobing with the top and bottom triggering when someone walks up the stairs.

- To prevent the sensons conflicting I was thinking of actually using the PIR's to trigger a timer such as the below.

Time Switches Timers - http://www.hager.co.uk/product-catalogue/energy-distribution/modular-devices/timers/time-switches/38549.htm

Electronic Time Delay Switch IP20 - https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/d190/Wired+Timers/sd2660/Electronic+Time+Delay+Switch+IP20/p17352

This would just then re-trigger the timeswitch / relay component and prevent the strobing.

Open to any opinions on the viability or method. Ideally I'd like to do everything at ULV, but, appreciate this may not be possible.

Many thanks for any help, and, time.

Regards

Dave

Fit small microwave sensors under the stairs, they should detect through the timber work without any issues, you can put one at the bottom step facing outwards and one under the top step facing upwards

Thanks.

Been a busy weekend. SWA for the garden as it was nice.

The top photo is exactly what I was looking for as an end result. I assume the wiring in under the stairs themselves? I have a U shaped half landing that may be problematical, but, everything has a solution.

I'll have a look at both the PIR and microwave routes. Does anyone have a link to the microwave switches?

Also, as said above, love the colours and stairs in the photo.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Regards

My fittings where supplied by Mr Resistor, as it was a full refurb the cabling went in through the wall partitions as I don't think the neighbour would have been pleased with wiring in her flat down below.
