Switch Fuses for fridges etc...

Was always under the impression these were used as a means of isolation if work was to be carried out on fridges etc instead of having to pull them out from uderneath worktops So was a bit surprised when seen a high level (worktop height) switch fuse and low level socket for a fridge/freezer today at a job when there isn't even a worktop goin to be where fridge/freezer is? Would a low level socket without switch fuse not be adequate seen as it's easily acsessible?

As long as it is accessible. I usually put sockets in the units next to an appliance, don't have to see them to have them accessible.

So could the switch fuse be done away with? Does it need to be installed or will a low level socket do?

would the socket at low level be positioned behind the appliance? if so it could be argued the it is not accessible as the appliance would have to be removed in order to isolate it. For example if the appliance started to smoke you wouldn't want to start trying to move it about to turn it off.

If your socket is not directly behind the appliance then the spur can be removed.

The appliance hasn't actually been installed yet so i'll ask the customer tomorrow where it's going to be positioned. Thanks for your help.

iv got 5 of them in 1 kitchen to do next week, switch fused con unit with neon in chrome, nice

If the appliance is not integrated then as far as i am concerned it can go behind.

However, with washing machines etc i usually out them in an adjacent cupboard for obvious reasons.
