Silly question I'm sure, but I'll ask anyway.

On a 2 way lighting circuit the black and grey conductors get sleeved brown to show they're line conductors and I'd like to know why as black and grey are line conductor colours anyway so surely if the grey isn't sleeved blue it's a line and if the black isn't sleeved yellow and green it's a line?

Is it to do with Single Phase and Three Phase?

I do apologise if I'm not seeing an obvious answer. I've just been pondering it for a while.

Not quite, a single phase circuit, even if fed from L2 or L3 should be sleeved as if it were fed from L1 to avoid confusion.
