Transformer for dimmer switch

Hi guys - first post on here so please be gentle!

I need to replace a transformer inside a sliding dimmer switch but am having trouble finding one. It's Home Automation, order code 5241 LV, but they're apparently no longer made. Please can anyone suggest an alternative which will do the same job?

Transformer? Most non switching transformers will work on a dimmer, just make sure the transformer is adequate for the load.

Is this for 12V lighting, or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Hi linuxthefish and thanks for the reply but that all went completely over my head I'm afraid!! How will I know if it's for 12V lighting? The switch controls some low voltage downlighters if that's any help?

Hi Floss

The easiest way to tell the output of the transformer is to have a look at the bulbs - they will say on them.

If they are 12v - most probably they will say 12v, 24 - say 24v - etc.

If your not to sure what your doing as your going to have to start with extra cables - 240v cables then its worth getting a sparky in (thinking your not a sparky) - sorry if you are

Is the transformer an integral part of the dimmer or is the transformer a separate item being supplied by the dimmer. I read your opening post to mean the dimmer is broken and you're trying to fix it.
