Thank you all for your replies. I will try plugging into a different socket tomorrow and see if it works!

Hi,just a thought, but make sure you pick a socket which is also RCD protected.

You already may have a machine, with a fault,so choosing a socket which is not protected by an RCD,may do two things,it may allow the machine to appear to be working, and dependent on the fault, allow the machine to become hazardous.

Just a tiny worry,if you were to plug that extension in to a garage socket which someone has wired straight to the power station

a) Washing machine motor may have taken offence over size of load
..permanent problem
b) Extra steamy ,in cold weather / small leak ..may dry out with some warmth ..leaving not much to find , when it dries !
c) Other !

my washing machine will never trip a RCD. she don't even know what one is.

Thanks...it's a fairly new house with no garage/alterations. I'll plug extension into another kitchen socket. Thanks for the warning!

Thanks for the feedback. Always really nice when we hear the outcome..

Hi, might be a late question since your problem happened a few years go.

Did you plug your new washing machine to the same plug?
