Hi I tested a small RFC. R1 = 0.28 RN = 0.28 R2= 0.46. R1 + R2 when L + N are cross connected = 0.30 (not the 0.14 I was expecting) on 6 out of 7 sockets 0.23 on other socket. I have checked all connections and they seem ok. I'm newish to testing and would appreciate any suggestions:confused:

You'll have to teach us how to test R1 + R2 with L & N cross connected :)

You shouldn't have a reading at all.

:D

I can't even get this to work - so much for giving advice.

Don't think I like the new site much:(

Hello and welcome
Hi I tested a small RFC. R1 = 0.28 RN = 0.28 R2= 0.46.
Correct terminology is r1, r2, & rn.
R1 + R2 when L + N are cross connected = 0.30 (not the 0.14 I was expecting)
You have carried out a measurement of R1&RN, not R1&R2.
I'm newish to testing and would appreciate any suggestions:confused:
Have you done a course? An understanding that R2 represents the CPC and not the Neutral is very basic stuff.

Widdler,

If he carried out the measurement of R1 + Rn, he would have got 0.14 - Not 0.30

Now he said he checked all connections, and they seem okay??;)

Whhhhoooooooosh.

Straight over my head lads. Wanted to say something to a thread but this is the third I've read and I don't think I'll find a thread that isn't in general chat that I can reply to any time soon. haha

I'm not referring to his measurments, I'm referring to his methods.

Non dart players off the green please. Thank you.:p

Thanks for the replies. I think. Yes I have done a course although I can see why you might think that I hadn't.http://www.electriciansforums.net/images/smilies/mad.png r1 + rn gives me a reading of 0.30 r1 + r2 a higher reading as you would expect but both readings are higher than they should be for the length of the circuit. The reading is identical at 7 out of 8 sockets and lower at the odd socket (0.23) for r1 +rn.

Ooh and are you sure you've connected them in a 'figure 8' i.e. leg 1 L1 to leg 2 L2 and leg 2 L1 to leg 1 L2? Cost from your first post it sounds like you have only done one connection.

:confused::confused: Say that fast three times.

Is that a new way of saying L1 - N2 & L2 - N1 :D

Took me a minute or two to get my head round that one ;)

You knew what you meant :D
