Hi all, thought I'd post this before I go to bed.

Average Labour Cost/Price of Electrics (Electricians Day Rates)

Check out this website. He gives prices that customers should expect to pay tradesmen for certain common jobs. Quite a big section on electrics if you look around the site. It also gives a guide to the average day rate for trades in different areas of the UK.
This guy gives out advice on GMTV too.

Average day rate is complete tosh (in my area anyway). how comes Norfolk gets £20 more a day than Lincolnshire, thats next door county. I know my rates are reasonable and plenty round here charge more than me, yet my day rate is more than the "Sheriff" shows.

If that's his time scales for Rewire I'd be happy
Spendding a full day taking boards up

He's not very pc for a tv building advisor. Quote:-

"The Grey Area
We call it "The Grey Area" as it this process has been a source of confusion for so many years. But as you will see - it's actually a Michael Jackson (Black and White)."

That was an enjoyable read but still clear as mud for the customer.

yeah i couldn't understand that. Why take all the boards up? His prices for a rewire are expensive for my, but his day/hour rate are cheap. doesn't add up.

LOL, i've always done it in colour, myself.......

It's more in Norfolk, because it isn't as flat here as it is in Lincolnshire. We do have a least some hills to drive up and that means we use more fuel than you, so we need that extra £20 ;)

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that couldn't make sense of his Math. I'd love to get jobs at the prices he quotes though. I don't like the way he tells customers to always get a quote not an estimate and to always get the tradesman to give a full breakdown. WTF? A quote is a quote, a one off flat fee that doesn't change, why the hell should you break it down? Guy's a moron, hope he looks into this site.

Extract from said site:
When talking to a sparks, besides using acronyms such as SELV, PELV and FELV (which aren’t the Lithuanian front three) he will mention lamps. For some inexplicable reason he isn’t describing “bedside" or "standard”, no, this is what he calls…. light bulbs. Also when he drops “consumer unit” or “distribution board” into the conversation he is only talking about the fuse box, silly man!
Personally I call them luminaire's:)

Click the GMTV link on the site and you get to see what the tw*t looks like, second thoughts don't click it, in fact don't even visit the site you'll only increase his google ranking and massage his already over inflated ego!

Rant over.

and he has a made up name paul puccioni...

hmmmm. a consumer unit is a fuse board? but it hasn't got fuses! technical advancement means it's got MCBs. and his explanation of correct earthing beggars belief.

He is the king of socket installers and has a very comprehensive veiw of us "others" :D

ll this checking can take far longer than the actual job the sparks came to do in the first place and can easily double the price. So a lot of sparks are prepared to ignore the potential legal repercussions, dispense with the expensive testing and therefore be much cheaper than their conscientious rivals.

BUT they should still hand over an electrical safety certificate (which they will obviously not do unless you know about it and ask them for one) and if the house burns down they will be heavily in the mire (putting it politely).

i have heard that ruthless,"make money at all costs people" tend to slag off the opposition, but he doesn't pull the punches

i'd have gone for 7 days on the rewire, me and a mate. £3000 -£3300
