Ah, ok.
that is an Ethernet socket.
normaly a cable would run from there to your Ethernet router, either direct or via a network switch and possibly another network socket.

this is a wifi socket and requires no network cable.

Would just depend on what else the property has installed. Might find that all ethernet ports are cabled back to a proper patch panel somewhere from where they'll be connected to routers or switches etc; or they might just run to more sockets with patch leads connecting them to a switch. All depends on how well the install was done and I suppose how enthusastic the owner is about doing things properly!
 
I have a socket like that in a short passage between two living rooms, and has a wifi router plugged into it, which serves those two rooms, and our bedroom above it.
The Cat5E cable connected to it goes to another part of the house, and plugs into the BT fibre modem that lives there.
