I've been using the CK T1632 Toolcase for the last three years and it's finally broken a zip and the other zip is on its way out as well.

I see it's been discontinued so I'm on the hunt for the best replacement.

I like the format of my existing case with the handles and shoulder strap and opening sides. I like the rubberized waterproof base and I often need to walk long distances with it so a shoulder strap is a must.

I don't carry big stuff like extension cables and power tools, I just have the standard range of handtools along with 3 testers and a laptop and some other bits and pieces. The largest tools I carry are a pair of adjustable pump pliers and an adjustable spanner. That said it's pretty heavy when fully loaded.

Any suggestions what might be suitable please?

Veto technician bag marvo. They have a 5 year guarantee as well

Hmm 4 times the cost, think I will stick to the Magma ones for now. Thats a massive outlay for something to carry tools in lol

Hold on a min 4 times?

Which one are you comparing it to.

The xl-f which is the same size as the technician bag is £110 inc near me

I usually see the ck at £50.

The xxl-f is £180 but has everything in there including a woodsaw and can carry your drill and charger etc

I use a roll along Peli case, extendable handle like a flight case, just been to Paris with it on a job and went via Eurostar and metro performed great and it's totally waterproof and can be put straight into hold luggage if need be.

Yes comparing the most expensive, but thats still twice a much and a little bit more.

I was just thinking exactly the same, 150 quid for the TechXL Veto and 36 quid for the CK Magma. That's a substantial difference, I'd need a lot of convincing to spend over a hundred quid more.....

The small bags are massively overpriced for what you get (I got mine really cause it was the biggest bag with a shoulder strap I could get from a shop)

Its full by the way and I didnt want a toolbox

My ones were £185 each, until you have owned one you will always wonder whta the fuss is about.

Heres a ebay link to the one you currently have

Hmm, I think I got wrong info, I was told it had been discontinued but I see it's changed colour, mine is navy blue. Did they change anything else or just the colour?

I know the one you have navy and yellow trim thing, these are a new colour, more or less the same bag bar the colour. Im using one at the minute and its great, organised and theres a space for everything. Seems to be wearing well too. Had a stanley fatmax before it and it was really poor IMO.

I get the impression they're better for someone carrying bigger heavier tools like drills, hammers, chisels etc. Do you think they be suitable for my more lightweight tool selection and my notebook (laptop)?

I've also been combing the internet, I see nobodies mentioned the fatmax range, I'm guessing there might be a reason?

I have got a fatmax tote but it rays in the van with the heavy stuff in like hammers and chisels etc.

The beauty of the Veto range is that they are perfectly designed to carry hand tools.

Would suit both needs, i can fit a hacksaw, spare blades, dymo label printer, socket tester, multimeter 16oz claw hammer and big lump hammer ( and perhaos other bits) in the centre compartment, but if you dont need to carry those everyday, it would make a great laptop bag, then you have your other two sides for screwdeivers, pliers etc etc. Would be well suited i think. Take a look at the pics on ebay Marvo.

I've got the magma and they are great but just make sure you get the hard bottomed one and not the soft bottomed as the hard is a lot sturdier and bigger

that's the magma version. it's similar but more robust, better quality. got the same one myself. only gripe i have is that my irazola drivers are too long to fit.

Yes they are put I have had a few CK / magma one and generally fall to pieces by there second birthday. Last one one lasted me a year. That's why I have gone for the veto range with a 5 year back up. Mine are just a year old and still look brand new.

You should see the price Tidyboiler pays for bags to carry her war paint, filofax, I-pad jemmy and all her other junk around in - it's eye watering!!!

I don't think a wheel along tool case will work, I do a lot of walking off-road to remote pump installations etc.

I use this one and have found it very good.....View attachment 23628
I don't think a 'tote' type bag will work either, my laptop and testers will be bouncing around with my handtools.

What about a case on wheels? Had mine for 7 years and it's still going strong.

GT Line New Mega Wheels PEL Technicians Tool Case from Tool Venture
WOW £239.95!!!! If I win the lottery it might be an option. Until then unfortunately not I'm afraid.

go for the magma. it's similar in storage to what you already have but a bit better build.

The best tool case I have had was one from RS, gas struts and a great bottom tray etc. Decided to invest in a GT Line Atomik wheels 215 PSS due to the wheels and larger storage... It ended up carrying less due to poor storage design. Build quality was crap in comparison and went through 2 in 12 months! Just bought the CK Magma plus bag due to less installation, more commissioning work but it actually carries more and in a more organised way! Will have to see how it copes with day to day use now!

I bought a fatmax tote a couple of months ago and for the money I'm impressed.
Ok, it's not going to last me a lifetime, but for £30 I'd happily buy a new one every couple of years.
im sure it wouldn't stand too much site work full of drill bits, lump hammers and bolsters... But I only want it for my basic hand tools carrying in and out of customers houses..

with the magma. it's great if you use the centre compartment for lappy and paperwork, bit if you load it up with hand tools, you end up emptying it out to find what you want.

I tend to use the centre compartment for multicompartment boxes of cable markers, ferrules etc., helps stop the lids getting broken. I hate having to dig out thousands of loose cable markers and sort into a new box! :D

Funny you should mention this as I was going to ask on the forum but I too use the magma bag as a service engineer its ideal and I am looking for a multi compartment box to go in the centre compartment to hold connectors, fuses, resistors etc.. What do you use or recommend?

Thanks
