The double 13 amp socket which we use to power the TV and recorder has tripped the RCD. The only change to the wiring was the installation of the new consumer unit about four years ago.
The house was re-wired about 12 years ago.
We are now using a double socket with an extension lead for the TV which is on the same circuit. No problem with any of the other sockets. There are two seperate ring mains down stairs. The second was added when we had an extension in the kitchen.
Could it just be a faulty double socket or is it a more serious problem.
Will probably have to get an electrician in to check every thing is correct and safe.

It could be a faulty socket, especially if the things that were connected still work on another socket.
Have a look at the socket, does it visually look OK?
Next, you could turn the power off and remove the socket and see if there is anything untoward going on behind (charring, damp, dead mouse - I've seen all of these).
Without test equipment that's as much as you can do.

Before removing anything, make sure the power is off.
If you're not sure how to check it then call a local electrician, he won't charge much and will be in and out in no time.

Try this to eliminate faulty equiment ,At consumer unit switch off rcd,s that are protecting ring main circuits,Then unplug all electrical devices plugged into ring main (must unplug devices)Switch rcds back on if they remain on then its usualy faulty electrical equipment,Plug in electrical equipment individually, until one item trips rcd

Well, as the equipment is working using another socket on the same circuit, it would suggest the problem is with the original socket and not with the circuit or the equipment.
