Hi
firstly I would have posted in the diy forum but I don't have permission. Hopefully someone can advise me though.
We have a fluorescent ceiling pendant light in a recently rewired kitchen. After a few weeks there was a blue spark and bang and the light stopped working. Switching the power...
Hello sparks
I was at a Job earlier today, the customers upstairs lights would not turn on due to the 6A mcb operating so it's a short circuit so I disconnected the supply to the first light the supply disconnected from consumer unit ,then did a insulation resistance which came out clear tried...
I'm a little confused as I have been off work for a while and not had that much electrical work on recently and am a bit of a noob if I'm honest.
The issue is that the rcd was tripping with all the breakers off. I took out the buzzbar next just to make sure. With the main breaker on the rcd...

Hi,
I would be very grateful if someone could shed some light on this:
My kitchen sockets have been tripping often for quite a few months, usually noticed when we get home from work. I'm not sure what the culprit is so I just go down to my cellar and flick the switch back up. Last night it...

Hi there, newbie here - thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
Over the last week or so something has tripped the entire house. At first it seemed to be limited to the kitchen lights but when I tested this they didn't trip the house. Then, with nobody near the kitchen lights, the house...
The wiring in the house is split into separate circuits each with their own RCBO for
3 for lighting (separate for ground floor; upper floor; and basement)
3 for power (again as above)
1 for cooker
1 for shower
2 for fridge/freezers
The problem exists only on the ground floor power circuit...

This is not my problem but posted on behalf of a neighbour down the road who doesn't have access to a computer. Can't remember his name but he seemed a good egg. Not too sure about the answer so posted it in here to try and hide it and not to embarrass myself more than I usually do in the main...

Hi - I think the autosave feature keeps crashing my browser when I'm using the quick post function to write a reply that's longer than a couple of sentences.
Browser is chrome.
Please switch that function off as this is starting to make me not want to post here, due to the frustration of...
Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice on what may be causing the cooker hood circuit board to stop working.
In four weeks it has blown twice, at £50 delivered a go. The hood is a Designair FGHD60ss,sealed ducting to outside, it is connected via moulded 13amp plug to socket in stainless steel...
No, don't panic, this isn't a plea for help, just sympathy. Asked to check out a bungalow this morning, (friend of the wife) apparently the "big switch in the fuseboard keeps tripping?"
Oh well, turned up with the family in toe as I thought this won't take long. Old Wylex board with BS 4293 RCD...

Laying in bed 12:30pm I noticed my Wireless router was knocked out. Came down stairs and checked the consumer unit and it had tripped. Re-set it and all was OK went back to bed. Unusual not happened before. Next day 11am it tripped again. At this point I became suspicious. Before re-setting I...
I have a bug with the advertising bar on the RHS of the page. Usually I have it tucked away out of sight but today it's started reappearing by itself every couple of posts.
Maybe a coincidence but it's been since the fixed page layout thingamybob was introduced.

I have a 4kw solar pv system installed December 2011. Appears to be working reasonably well but the system consistantly shuts down when I operate a 1500 watt electric hydraulic log splitter. (The system resets and reinstates itself after five minutes.)
