Unbelievable!!! Last week, bathroom refurb, the shower was removed an 8.5kw mira, it had been supplied from the pullcord in 2.5mm t&e, there was no thermal damage to the cable. The customer says it was there when they moved in, 8 years ago. I cannot believe it has not caught fire & there was no...
Hi all, well after passing my 2391 I'm looking at buying a Megger MFT 1720 or 1730. I can't decided which one to get.
I like the idea of downloading results with the 1730 but is it really worth the extra money or should I just go for the 1720.
What's people thoughts or experience with either...
Hello All
Noticed on a job today ...
Domestic house which had been converted from two separate dwellings knocked into one.
It still has 2 x CU's and 2 x Meters. about 4 metres apart.
I've got a bad feeling ......
2 x supplies ... 415volts!
I've not come across this before and I'm not sure...
Went to look at a job this morning - additional socket in free standing garage.
The supply is fed from FCU in kitchen via a 2 core Hituff cable. There is a separate earth (10mm) that appears to be
TT'd at the garage, but without digging it up - i can't verify the termination. The Zs is 19.5...
Hello,
The normal PME etc query i see on the forum relates to the farm buildings supplied from the house where the house runs on PME and the farm on TT with local earth rods.
In this case, the supply is terminated to the the farm which has a PME supply, should the farm CU & final loads be...
Hi guys,
Went to fit a new oven for a friend of mine where the old one was connected to a cooker connection unit which also supplied to induction electric hob. This is fed by a cooker switch in 6mm on a 40a mcb.
Now the oven is supplied with a kettle lead and says its 1.5mm on the cable, i...

Re-called to a job today.
(Hate it when that happens)
Motor overloads tripping on a 3ph. water pressure boost pump, but intermittently, not every day.
First visit, tested everything - current draw, voltage, winding resistances, IR etc - nothing,
no trips, everything working fine, like your car...
Been out delivering leaflets today trying to drum up some enthusiasm regarding solar P.V. Spoke to a few customers who were out mowing the lawn etc. The general thought on the street seems to be they don't trust it, or don't want it. Age group ranged from 40-80.
Anyway whilst out in one of the...
Hi guys just starting up looking to get a mft not too picky about the manufacture as long as it does all the checks required.
Looking to spend about £200 to £300?
Hi everyone
just fitted customer supplied icage down lighters and gu10s which were Philips I believe. There are over 20 on three seperate circuits. Customer says they keep blowing. Has anyone else has this problem? Seem to think its my fault. Thanks in advance. David.
Would I be correct in assuming that the supply cable which enters your house has been (in theory) calculated in such away as that there will be no volt drop across it as to ensure that 230v (or thereabouts) is at your DB and available for all your circuits, providing they have ample size...

Hi all,
I have informed a client that they need RCD protection for sockets (Commerical, office) however I am not sure if RCBO's are available for this board!
Currently the only protection is over-current, by Eaton MBH132 MCBs. They also have the number N14928 stamped on them.
Just thought it...
I don`t do any EICR reports in my normal working days activities but i have recently had a look at a friends property as he is selling it and i have found that his integrated oven is supplied from his kitchen ring main from a FCU.
It has been like this for many years and there is no signs of...
Hi all i just want to check if everything is ok with my 1st 50kw solar install.
I have run a submains from an existing main consumer unit which is supplied with a 300mm swa cable so no problems there with volt drop.
The sub board i put in is supplied with 16mm swa on a 50a mcb 10 meters away...

I was wondering if any one has installed anything like what I have been asked to do.
It is in a training enviroment and they would like approx 5 sockets installed allong a wall that can have the power switched off via an emergency trip button by the teacher if required.
I was thinking a radial...
Hi,
Basically one of my mates has bought a mobile snack van to set up, and there is no electrical supply or wiring in it .. everything is gas in it. He's basically wanting a supply in it for a few sockets (fridges and cash register) and a flourescent light. He's going to buy a generator for a...

Not come across this before but the installation is labelled PME system but there is no earth connection supplied by the distributor. The earth connections are stuffed inside a loose connector in the fuse box and a 4mm cable connected off the incoming water supply, obviously not allowed anyway...
Does anyone have any experience in recording values of EFLI on circuits fed through a DB supplied via a UPS please? The meter shows the above scale arrow.
I understand that there will be no reference to the external earth due to the inverter inside the UPS but what will happen to the UPS...
