Discuss 12v solar installation - covered by Part P? in the DIY Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi all

I am looking to install a 12v system on my roof terrace to power a few LED lights.

I was going to connect a 12v transformer into an existing FCU inside the property, and then run a 12v circuit from this to power the lights on the roof terrace. However, I understand that this is Part P notifiable and therefore a no no for me as a DIY-er.

Plan B is therefore to install a 40W 12v solar panel on the roof, charging a small battery. I understand that such a system wouldn't be covered by Part P.

Is this the case? Is this still true if I install the battery and charge controller in the loft within the property?

Thanks for your help.
