Hello gents

I'm just after some clarification, I have a kitchen light fitting that uses a 2D 28W compact fluoresent lamp that I'd like to convert to a LED 2D lamp that I've bought because I thought it would work with the existing control gear.

I realise now that I have a magnetic rather than electronic ballast. Would I need to use a correctly rated electronic ballast for a fluroescent? Below is the lamp I have purchased and the ballast I'm thinking of purchasing, any advice appreciated.

A bit late to this party, but you might be better looking at 'retrofit' 2D replacements. Kosnic make a good range of these, good quality and reliable, where you remove any existing ballast and wire the lamp directly to mains. (Just be careful which pins you choose - go for diagonally opposite if in doubt.) The 12W version gives similar light output to 28W fluorescent 2D, the 9W is suitable for a 16W original. Otherwise, GE (and others) make a retrofit 2D LED range that can be used in situations where you can't get at the ballast to take it out of circuit: they look like old 2Ds but the tube tends to be fatter than the original and you need to select the model according to whether the ballast that you can't remove is magnetic or electronic.
Search "retrofit 2D LED"

Tnks for all responses, yeah that's what I did in the end. Sent that hardware back and bought a 18w Bonlux 2D LED unit (Amazon) and wired it up directly to the mains using two of the four pins and bypassing the ballast completely, brighter than original 28w 2D CFL and thought it was too bright but the cooler light just took a bit of getting used to.
