Hi,

Ive fitted a couple of makes but i was wondering which of you guys prefer. Looking for good price for quality.

I know they have different types ideally i would like a make that has a good spacer to fit just in case i need to extend it out because of back box being to small

Neweys sell them with spacers for approx £16, What do you sparks recommend?

I'm pretty sure I fitted them on existing 25mm boxes, but offer one into a box at the wholesalers to check though.

yeah, not a bad idea to be fair, i went to change a socket for a friend recently, he bought the socket (cheap). took it off found a 25mm backbox with ring and spur... horrible having to try and get it in without causing damage to cables. So i had to go buy a spacer.. never again!

I'm sure that Schneider Lisse have frames in their range if you do end up needing one, although they might not be shelf stock in most places I reckon.

This comes with a spacer and is also available in white.

We have fitted the BG white plastic ones before and found them to be quite well built and they fit in a 25mm backbox easily enough without requiring a spacer

seconded. fitted a BG one yesterday onto a 25mm back box with 3 2.5mm T/E in there.only thing was the terminals are a bit tight for 3 cables, but went together fine.

I fitted one of those in my house, one of the usb sockets has gone carput after 6 months. Seen some reports concerning the safety of some of these sockets; http://www.electricalsafetyfirst.or...onals/product-safety-unit/usb-socket-outlets/

The do have spacers, the spaces are available with a with shelf on top of hook on the bottom aswell. Usually in stock at cef.

I started a post on this forum regarding USB' s in 13A outlets last year, reason was that I was concerned about the quality of them.
Also found that many do not have BS approval, although this may now have improved, the OP should search for my thread titled 'USB sockets in 13A Outlets' as many of the forum members posted some very interesting info which I was unaware of the time.
On the strength of some of the info I have not installed any yet.

Always hated these things on sight; how do they isolate from the supply? Are they permanently hot? How are they fused/protected from the 30 amp? Do they give readings on L-N insulation tests? With the amount of fault-finding (sorting out others' cr4p) you have to do today these days these seem like a PITA (or worse) in the making.

They also seem bit pointless to me to be fair, as you still need a lead anyway, a properly useful product would maybe have a lead on a hoover style retracting reel, selectable adapters, probably in it's own plate/wallbox, but of course you can't fire them out of china at $1 a pop and flog them down your local diy shed for £20 to easily impressed punters.
