Recently fitted 4off wall lights to replace some that had been there years and had been fitted upside down all that time.
The old fittings had brown/overheating of the SES holder that i put down to age and the fact that the heat would be heading up towards the holder (upside down). Client had been complaining of many lamps blowing etc.
Anyway new fittings put in and MW tested out ok, only slightly odd thing was N-E insulation was only @27Mohms, P-E and P-N all >500Mohms. PME supply 0.33ohms which is a bit close but the place is out in the middle of nowhere and it does comply just.
All other readings as expected.
The fittings have been in for a month and the client has replaced 5 lamps that were brand new when fitted. 40W candle SES's, max rating for fitting 60W.
Apart from MW, checked supply voltage (244V) & asked if they had outages/noticable surges etc, they said not that theyd noticed.
Not sure what else to be done. Asked them to keep a careful note of what blows and when for a couple of weeks.
They say that the lamps always go when they switch the lights on. Would a slow start of a dimmer help. Doesnt find whats going wrong I know, but might solve the symptoms.
Lamps are homebase own make, but theyve just ordered a bulk batch from t'interweb (dont think thats going to improve the quality of the lamps!). Any other suggestions?

fit a rotary dimmer, one that can only be switched on at low power, and replace the candle bulbs with halogen candle bulbs.

Cheap lamps IMO try Phillips or ring etc or easiest way is to change to energy savers.....
