Discuss A bit of screwdriver porno in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

screwdrivers are my weakness , I can’t stop until I have tried them all....:p

(still trying to save up for my own snap-on ratchet , but if the wife catches me buying one it will be a week in the shed for sure)

I did pick up a gorgeous pair of old Ceka insulated pliers from a boot fair recently for 2 quid.
i also had a bid in for some old ITL tools on fleabay but got out bid so left it,

Screwdrivers have been on my mind recently (I don't get out much)

Is it just me, or are most of the 4-5mm flat blades ones too thick for some faceplate screws?

Maybe it's the cheap accessories I've run across, but the medium slotted blade (4-5mm blade width) ones in the (mostly cheap) sets I've tried are often just slightly too thick to work, and the smaller one fits but is too narrow to get a good purchase.

Many of the blades seem to be 1.0 x 4mm - I bought an 0.8 thickness 4mm one which worked perfectly, so of course I immediately misplaced it...

Stanley do a 4mm that's perfect for faceplate screws - no idea what thickness that blade is (I'm 30 miles from it at present), but might be a cheap and cheerful option that does exactly what you want.

i have a perfect bit in my impact driver, specially for long faceplate screws that need 20 turns.

I have Also noticed this is several brands that , the width of the blade is slightoy ttoo think

although different 3.5 screws seem to have different width slots so it might be a screw issue & not a screwdriver issue

also I was fitting some cheapo white accessories the other week and they came with cross head screws

I use a 4mm Wiha driver, the only accessory screws I have trouble with are the Click ones which don't seem to have a deep enough slot these are always ditched.

Turns out I lied.

Stanley part no. 65-413 and is 5.5mm. Just fits into recess of white moulded stuff.

Sort of driver you'd keep for faceplates as the fine blade is a but on the light side for any heavier work.

I built this set,in 4 and 6mm,added the exras, converters and specials.....then me pal stitched two tool rolls together and modded the strappng...and hey presto,it is identical to the one the Gypsy promised me,in my dream ;)
