Adding extra consumers to an existing installation

Hi all,

I am looking to add 4 x instantaneous water heaters in an old care home.How do I ensure there is enough capacity left on the electrical supply for these additional water heaters. The client is asking for specific calculations prior to the job being done. The only thing I can think of is maximum demand.
Has anyone got any suggestions please.

You could Hire one of these and conduct a survey over a week.

Measure the existing maximum demand and add it to your new load taking diversity of the new load into account.

Your profile doesn't say if you're an electrician. If you're not, get one to do this and the installation for you.

Do you have a clamp on ammeter or better still access to a hawk meter to determine overall energy consumption.

Another think you need to consider, is water temperature....nursing homes, schools etc, all heaters must be governed to 41 deg C...you can find this info under Approved Document M

Get a usage report off the energy supplier, why pay for equipment when its all already be monitored and logged by the supplier... the meter may also allow access to max demand for the billing period your in... if it has a button that allows access to these values then its a guide to use too.
