Dear All,
I have a very old (creaking) Scantronic 9800 home alarm system.
A PIR has failed and so I have powered down the system and will be replacing the PIR.
I thought I would change the bell box at the same time.
I am looking to buy the Texecom Odyssey 3 A but online it talks about a 'tamper hold off on installation' that "only allows bona fide engineers to install" I am aware that Texecom engineers use Wintex etc so does this stop me from changing the old bell box (no make or model number I'm afraid).
The old bell box wiring is 5 wires out of the wall - Bell, +ve, -ve, Strobe and tamper
The odyssey is also a 5 wire
Am I over thinking this or will the Odyssey not function ?
If it's not compatible does anyone have any suggestions please
Thank you for your time in advance
Warm regards,
Paul

The Odyssey sounder will work with most if not all wired panels

You don't need the Aux fault wiring

Some other sounders use a tamper relay rather than a negative tamper return that needs a link from the negative to the relay which then allows a negative tamper to the panel

Wintex is mainly used on the Texecom Premier and Premier elite panels for programming and firmware updates although there other peripheral functions they won't affect you using the Odyssey 3 sounder

A very big thank you to all of you who contributed especially thanks to UNG for the tip regarding the Aux.
It's very comforting to get expert opinion when trying to buy replacement parts for such an old system.
Thank you once again
Warm regards
Paul

The Scantronic 9800 ceased production around 30 years ago but is still a viable panel, external sounders are a failure point due to the SAB battery which in most cases not replaceable, with an old system I would consider updating any PIR's as the technology has improved a lot in the last 30 years making them less prone to false alarms
