Hi guys,

I am not an electrician but am after some advice on fixing an outdoor security light that I bought from B&Q recently. I am replacing an old security light that was removed from the wall at the back of our house. There are live, neutral and earth wires poking out of the wall now, ready to be connected to a security light.

It says in the manual of the B&Q light that 'THIS PRODUCT MUST BE EARTHED'. However there is no green/yellow wire present in the back of the light, only brown and blue ones appear to be going into one side of the plastic block terminal (blue goes into the left and brown into the right, the central block is empty).

The light itself is plastic, so does this mean that it does not need to be earthed??? Even though the instruction booklet states in in bold capital letters that is must be?

Hope you can help.

Thank you.

have u looked at the centre block carefully as it might be connected to a small metal lug if u look closely ,, if not it is probably the earth block,, terminate the earth as it is a plastic fitting,, if in doubt phone a local electrician as it wont cost much to fit

Ok thanks, hopefully you should find three pics attached to this message.

Terminate cpc into centre block. The light casing appears to be plastic and as such is regarded as double insulated with no requirement to earth.
