I need black surface back boxes. PVC or ABS conduit boxes would be fine, as would metalclad, but not the crunchy ones. - There will be some conduits involved.
I can find only Wickes (who sell a single outlet black box only, no doubles), same at CPC. Occasional Ebay sellers do have some with extortionate prices, and another business that seems to wrap painted metal covers round ordinary white melamine type boxes.
TLC sell some but only with moulded push-outs for their D-line trunking which will be a pain when I'm drilling for conduit. (I could superglue them in and then drill, but not nice).

I've been Googling about for quite a while and not found much. Has anyone got a lead?

Got a pic of what you want? I’m sure your local wholesaler can source these.

Self adhesive vinyl stuck neatly round a white box can work, I have only done it once though!
Generally not a required item so the prices are silly, perhaps if you can find out the manufacturers from cpc or wickes they may do other accessories.

Sorry I thought you meant conduit boxes. Gbrtrading1 on eBay sell single and double, never used them but I came across them

still don't see whats wrong with my suggestion
good enough for temp. fix, but paint won't adhere well to plastic. you'd need to rough it up with sandpaper first ( the back box i mean, not some 1 night stand tart ).

Whenever we need matte black metalclad for theatre installs we just spray paint them, same with steel trunking and conduit etc.

i spray painted some grey adaptable boxes black outside ,to match pir's bolted onto em 3 years ago on a footballers house still like new today. german plastic spray paint ,the same spray tin still worked 6 months ago

I like your idea Multimick - if it’s good enough for the theatre luvvies then it’s good enough for me!
