Just a quick question when taking cables across a public footpath I know the depth is 24 inch and all the relevant gravel and tape. But I can't get any deeper than 24 inch but there is a gas main and mains LV crossing my path. So essentially my ducting will be crossing there's do I need to separate these with any non combustible material. Thoughts?

the standard depth is 450mm
no cables can be installed outside a private boundary without L.A. permission as all the utility drawings have to be updated to show your mains.

All permission granted I have all the drawings of utility's which is no problem as we have access to these.all ground cat and genny as we dig. All drawings will be updated when we are finished just the crossing of utilities is annoying me I want to go deeper but can't because of a layer of feels like kryptonite. 450 isn't deep enough we have to be at 600 min.

My problem is the more a put between them the further I raise it up. Very annoying,

If you are Ducting, and that ducting is buried in soft sand throughout it's buried length and crossing points What on earth are you worried about?? Can't get much less a combustible material than sand now can you!! lol!!

Because services are present it's a hand dig only! Crap rule that causes me pain! Seems like a lot of work for 4 lights!

No it’s not. Once the services are located and uncovered by hand digging you can use power excavators so long as you have a watch man. (I think you lot refer to them as a banks man.)

I’ve run 11KV cables through solid rock to join or cross other live 11KV feeds in an existing trench.

When it comes to the trench bedding material, I found quarry sand to be the best. If it rains during the job it doesn’t run like building sand. Above the sand bed we used tiles followed by ¾” crusher run. (Ask the builders merchant.)
