Is there a regulation that states only to use bs7671 cable? I have come across alot of Chinese branded cable lately on my inspection and testing and wondering what to do about it? Tia.

Do they have compliance markings such as BS6241Y etc?

BASEC surly plus a BS number I believe
I don’t think that Chinese cable would be good for our installs or our economy.
I’ve used Turkish cable from TLC and it was a pleasure to work with but still not good for our economy.
Prysmium take your cable out of the stupid box dispensers or at least try to run some cable out yourself before selling it to the people who need it to be efficient - my rant over!

but are andrex installations notifiable? use of such could cause an explosive situation. are wiped turds subject to WEEE?

Out of curiosity what was wrong with the Turkish cable?

Nothing, lovely to work with. Tested ok on the roll (the one time I tested it!)
Just that we should be buying UK manufactured items if we can.

In the basic principles of BS7671 it states that every item of equipment shall comply with the appropriate British standard or harmonised standard, if it is not then is must be of an IEC or appropriate countries standard; alternatively the designer is taking responsibility for the safety of the item being as good as or better than the appropriate standard.
Section 133, selection of equipment.
Even if a cable is made in China if it is used over here then it should be constructed to and labelled correctly as meeting the British or harmonised standard. Just because it is made in China it does not necessarily mean it is sub standard, but it is worth remembering that quality standards tend to be lower in China than the UK.

The company building the power station I was working on a couple of months back is having problems over the Chinese HO7 cables they used.
Apparently it’s not BASEC approved.

like said by many others the place of manufacture should not be relevant, its all good saying that we should use products that are made in the UK but as we hand lots of our major projects to foreign main contractors then how can we expect them to use our products, after all when these tenders are all weighted 70/30 on cost they will squeeze every penny possible in the supply chain, this is where supply chain management and building relationships go out the window if can be obtained cheaper else where as good will simply isn't worth any thing in business these days sad but true

Which brand of cable do you lot recommend, I use Prysmain as it's readily available for me from Srewfix. Anyway some of these British standard markings on cables could be faked, maybe not from a reputable stores but then again you would not think there would be horse meat in those burgers because of where they were being sold.
