I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this problem please? We’ve lived in our house for 12 years from when it was new. Never had any electrical problems. Over the last week or so, we can turn our oven on and cook a full roast etc with no issues until we turn the oven off, when we turn it off the circuit breaker trips.

If we try even to reset the clock in the following few minutes it’ll trip again. If we wait 5 minutes or so, no problems and everything is fine again.

7 times out of 10, when we switch the oven off it’ll trip the circuit breaker.

My first thought was it may be an oven issue and I need to call an appliance man but I’m also thinking could it be a sensitive or faulty circuit breaker?

Any help most appreciated.

Is an MCB, RCBO or RCD that trips

It is most likely that the element is on its way out

I realise that when you switch the oven off it may well just be switching off the line (not the neutral), but if for any reason it is double pole switching, then even a small difference in time between them (live and neutral) switching off can cause an RCD to trip. I've never had this on an oven though.
However, @James is probably (usually) right.

Years ago I wired a single socket on a RCBO protected circuit through a grid switch, didn't matter what you plugged into it the RCBO tripped off when the grid switch was switched off. Using a different grid switch made no difference, using the grid switch in a different circuit didn't cause a trip, swapping the socket made no difference and replacing the RCBO made no difference, it still tripped on that circuit, every time no matter what combo you used, yet using the same accesories on a different circuit didn't cause a trip.

Everything was brand new and I never got to the bottom of it.
