Hi guys,
I'm leaving the army after 13 years of fun, and I'm fed up with helicopters and Afghan, so I'm going to try a complete re-trade, I'm just a little confused about where I need to begin. can anyone point me in the right direction? Your help and advice would be wonderful, I'm in east anglia.
Thanks again guys.

He works with helicopters. I'm sure that's all we need to know.

Give Construction Skills College Limited : Quality Training Courses in Plastering courses – Plumbing courses – Tiling courses – Electrical courses – Carpentry Courses – Joinery courses – Kitchen Fitting Courses – Bricklaying courses – Painting and Decorat or www.tradeskills4u.co.uk a call and mention electriciansforums.net

Though wait for the lads to respond with suggestions as I'm not a sparky myself. :)

Welcome aboard electriciansforums.net :)

Thanks for the quick reply guys,
I'm about to book a couple of courses, but before I do, I'd like to know if, in the real world, these are actually worth the paper? or should I focus my efforts elsewhere? they start with A basic electric course, training in basic supply. then Domestic Electrical Installation, this covers single-phase domestic wiring under IEE regs, followed by the IEE 17th Edition wiring regs course itself. followed by Inspection and testing of electrical installations in both domestic and commercial/industrial as per BS:7671. followed by Design, erection and verification of electrical installations C&G 2391-20. Plus PAT testing C&G 2377-100 & 2377-200 thrown in for good measure.
Does that all sound correct?
I understand its a bit of a big question to ask, but I'm totally new to this, and I honestly have no idea what I'm talking about, unless its a spinny thing going really fast and screaming at you trying to make your head bleed, then I'm clueless!
Thanks again for taking te time to help guys, I really appreciate it!

Complete retraining after 13 years in the army, What courses do I need to begin?

As part of you leaving the Army, your entitled to be re-traded.
Ask your CO about going to 1RSME in Chatham. They train mostly 17-30 yr olds. However the 2-1 courses can sometimes be older.
Sounds like your REME so you prob have a basic understanding of electrics.
If you want more info call 1RSME.
I don't know if they will train you from fresh, but the instructors will be able to better guide you through what you know and what your next step should be.

Hope this helps

Hi Leighevans,

Are you sure you're making the right decision - do you realise how dangerous electrical work can be? ;):D:p:)
