Hi all I’m a self builder here looking for some technical details.... I’m fitting a consumer board next to my garage door and need to know if there is a minimum distance that the board needs to be fitted to the wall in relation to door opening???

there's nothing in the regs. to say. however, i'd make sure that the CU was accessible with the door open. sometimes with an up and over door, you can't get at the CU when door is open.

ideal I was just a bit concerned with the distance with possible water when door is opened. Thanks for the reply ?

Hi - this is a genuine concern and it’s up to the responsible person to ensure the installation design and then the materials selected are in sympathy. If the Consumer Unit is just the standard item then it must not be exposed to moisture. If that means a metre setback from the door or 3 metres it’s up to the detail of the site. That’s why there’s often no specific distances except in some Special Locations.
