Different routes to becoming an electrician?!

I'm trying to find a viable way in to becoming an electrician after a career change. I'm 41 years old. I've taken a couple of exams such as 17th edition and inspect / test 2192, but I've been trying to join an apprenticeship but I'm way too old.

I don't particularly want do another course. For one thing they are too expensive. But if that's my only alternative, what course/s should I be doing, even if money is no object. Maybe I'll find it somewhere.

Surely isn't the best way, to somehow become a sort of an apprentice and therefore study real life on the job aspects of becoming an electrician. I live in East Sussex by the way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dan and welcome aboard!!

I would personally get yourself to night school and get yourself a proper core qualification, If you are still currently employed I would stay there while studying.

^^^^^ what GMES said. 2365 level 2 is the "proper core qualification", then level 3, then convert it to a 2357 by doing an NVQ whilst gainfully employed in the trade. Pick up contacts while you're at night school, get an ecs/cscs card to get on site. Get as much casual work as you can while studying.
