Yes if the transformer on the main light is a dimmable type. It might be printed on the transformer. if therre are other lights on that switch make sure your transformer is rated high enough to take the loadeg. eg.300 watts:)
 
You have to be a little bit careful with dimmers and halogen lighting whether its mains or LV.

Most dimmers need to be de-rated by at least half for halogen loads.

ie 600W dimmer should be derated to 300W if using halogen lighting.
