diversity to fan oven

Would you apply diversity to a integrated fan oven?

For instance a 3.5kw fan oven is never going to pull 3.5KW

So using normal cooker diversity it would bring current down to around 11A from 15A
Meaning a FCU would be ok as opposed to a new circuit?

Of course it isn't, and that is my point, you stated that any appliance over 2.2kw needs it's own circuit.
I asked for a regulation number to support this as the only thing I know of in the regs relates to space heating only

Appendix 15 does suggest that cookers etc with a rated power exceeding 2kW be own their own dedicated circuit

Regulations have nothing to do with it, manufacturers instructions take precedence over the regs and most manufactures suggest a seperate circuit for loads over 2kw not 2.2 as tel suggested lol

It's only by the regulations that the MIs take precedence over the regulations, and that is hopefully going out of the window in January.

Nothing seems to be available in a decent power rating any more, even kettles don't appear to be 3 KW

agreed.
most washing machines & dishwashers are at least 2kw and theyre never put on their own circuit.


i think the underlying message that the regs is trying to convey is that "continuous" loads that pull full current for pro-longed periods are better off on their own circuit , not the fact that they are above 2kw or any other such arbitary figure , otherwise there would be no need for 13a plug tops , only 8.69a plug tops.

how can it save energy? to boil a kettle of water @3kw takes 5 minutes (15 amp mins). @2kw it takes 7.5mins (15amp mins). the same amount of joules needs to be put in to heat the water to boiling point whether it's 3kwatt or a candle.

Its this very fact that having fixed loads or similar over 2Kw be on a seperate circuit so joe blogs can safely plug in a 3kw load and not have nuisance tripping just because someone in there infinite wisdom decided to half the capacity of the ring main - the 2kw recommendation is so your average user can plug in the many heavy loading devices without tripping the circuit, just look what gets switched on together in a kitchen at tea time; yes the loads have some diversity if stat controlled but I've been called out many a time to nuisance tripping for the very fact we are discussing here.

It was brought in a regulation for a reason, they don't just sit there trying to make our life harder by making ridiculous regs up, although half of them seem like that at first. :icon12:


Take any regulation and It can be pulled apart under the right circumstances, take Zs compliance to ensure your OCPD trips in time... it never factors in that you may have a load plugged into a 20m+ extension meaning the point of power (extension outlet) would fail for meeting Zs.... are we not glad we have RCD's to cover our asses now :santa_smiley:

Can't say i've come across a ring circuit that is run continuously loaded at or anywhere near 32A for any length of time. If it were to happen, it would in all likelihood be on a kitchen ring though.


BTW, we are using a 3KW kettle here and have a 2.8KW heater in our bedroom that we use for winter nights as the temp here can drop to -10C of a night!! Just as well we don't pay for our electricity. ...lol!!

You haven't allowed for thermal losses through the body of the kettle and other losses, this will result in the 2KW kettle using more joules than the 3kw
