Do hand dryers require RCD protection

Guys i'm doing an EICR at the minute. Do hand dryers for public use require RCD protection? Wired in singles in earthed steel pipe, no bath or shower in the room........

Whether it was required or not, it would be prudent to include an RCD, where hand dryers are used in designated public area's!!

but on a EICR, the worst he can do is a code C3, or a comment recommending RCD protection.

If the hand dryer is hard wired on a TN system and as the cable is conduit run and is not in a room containing a bath or shower then the regulations do not require RCD protection of the accessory.

However probably a good idea anyway!.

Shouldnt be coded at all if it's not a requirement of 7671....this is why EICR's vary so much,electricians introduce personal opinions when the ONLY criterior is whether it complies onr not.

Agreed, I missed the earthed metallic pipe bit!, IF its in a bog not a bathroom, NO code could reasonably be given other then an observation.

Yes...ignoring manufacturers instructions would not comply with 7671

Depends on the type of installation, I would avoid RCD protection on fixed equipment at all cost, however if TT for just one example then it would need it, whats the earthing arrangements and whats the zs reading?
