Discuss Doubling up meter tails in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

What on earth is going on here then?!?!?

"Is it ok to prune my tails guvnor?? I need to stab em both into one hole. Oh, and I'll be mucking about with the meter an all"

And people sit there and try to defend the Electrical Trainee?!?!?

What planet are these muppets living on?!?!?

Cut seals? god no :coolgleamA: . I'm probably going to instal henley blocks to be honest. The existing house already has an electric shower and cooker. And this new flat is also going to have an electric shower. Oh and there's going to be a hot tub installed in the garden. I know, tell me about it. So this is why Im running a new supply in.

No, in your original post you said:
"I plan on doubling up the connections in the meter"

Just wondering what the regulations are on doubling up meter tails?
My girlfriends dad wants to convert the garage into a 'granny flat', and I plan on doubling up the connections in the meter to take a new 16mm supply to the garage. Opinions?

I think this falls under regulation 134.1.1 amongst others.

Might I suggest your girlfriends dad starts by seeking planning advice and permission from the local authority's planning department, and also that he hires an experienced electrician to carry out the electrical work.

Your new supply should be described in terms of its OCPD rating rather than cable size as the cable size is calculated after this rating has been selected and is not necessarily indicative of the power available from that supply. Consider that your 16mm cable may only be capable of safely supplying 10A under the wrong conditions!
