Discuss EICR requirement prior to CU change? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I agree that it's best to do an EICR before a CU replacement, but is there an actual regs that dictates that an EICR 'must' be conducted prior to a CU change?
No it's a recommendation via a best practice guide

There's two options.
Price in the cost of an EICR to the CU change quote (which you won't get because you'll be too expensive).
Or
Quote the CU change without an EICR, but note on the quote that rectifying any faults found are charged extra.
Also, make it clear.
The EIC for the CU change, does not cover any of the existing installation.

How much is charged for a typical EICR?
I was just wondering; most of my CU changes were for small or standard sized properties. I couldn't possibly factor in the cost of an EICR, and even think I would get the CU replacement.

If it was for a very large property, or the existing install looked a bit dodgy, then I would carry out an EICR for a fee, followed by a quote for the CU plus any extras that where located by the EICR.

This seems to be a very common question asked, shame there's not one of those sticky threads on CU changes; EICR's beforehand, intumescent sealing of, protective bonding size, tail size, CU location/height etc etc.

Thanks all and some good points made. So my question has been answered in that whilst an eicr is considered best practice and recommended prior to a CU replacement, it is not an actual requirement.
