Hi Guys

Someone I know wants to install a Electric shower but the consumer unit has no space, can I install an add on unit or do I need to replace the existing unit??

As there is no space in the current unit you may want to check the Maximum demand on the current supply?

Add on units have been acceptable in the past but I am not quite sure how this stands with the 17th Edition now 701 in the Regs.

All circuits in the Bathroom now require a additional protection by an RCD so it may be worth updating the unit if you are going to have to juggle circuits around in the existing unit or replace MCB's with RCBO's etc?

Is the existing unit a old rewirable one I would just change it.

Maybe someone else could comment?

if it was me i would change the consumer unit, then put the shower on a rcd like warren says.....better off in the long run anyway

Thanks guys

Just one more question...

The CU is for an annex type building, is is a good idea to have all circuits on an RCD?
