Hi have just extended a ring main,am i correct in thinking that i have to test the complete circuit and give customer an e.i.c or do i issue a minor works and just test the extended circuit ?

you have to test the whole circuit that you have altered, not the whole installation.a minor works cert will de OK as you have not installed a new circuit. on a MWC you will see it asks for the "details of the modified circuit"

If by extending you mean that the ring is now longer IMHO its a EIC as you need to test the entire circuit.

If you've added a spur you could use a MWC and restrict your tests to the spur.

tin hat on

Thanks guys, what i have done is actually opened up the ring and added 4 doubles so to be on the safe side test the ring completly and issue an EIC p.s murdoch IMHO ??

Hi Murdoch, fix bayonets :-)

Agree with Tel, not a new curcuit. Ok, a slightly more complicated than a radial, but it still existed prior too. Now with a bit tacked on? Why EIC?

Dont need eic, minor works and main earthing and bonding should be to current regs,if its in kitchen requires the part pee aswell.

Yh minor works certificate, check bonding and test that circuit. 1 minor works certificate for each alteration, thats why if uve altered a couple of circuits then you use a EIC saves writing out numerous minor works

Minor works if your alteration or addition is to one existing circuit only...no matter how extensive the alteration.
The only thing with a M/W is there is no provision for recording end to end ring readings...you should still test these, and the results could be recorded in the comments on the existing box.

Hence why I would use an EIC
