The consumer unit was only installed last year to 17th edition Amd 3 & now the customer wants a SPD fitted after a friends £2k TV got fried by a lightning strike.
As MK do not make SPD, can you fit another brand of SPD in the consumer unit.
I know the rule about mixing brands of MCB/RCBO in a consumer unit, but does this apply to a SPD.

I believe the rule you talk of applies to all CUs and associated equipment, unless you have manufactures assurances that to mix and in the particular instance is OK, why not fit a Type 1 SPD at the origin of the installation 534.1 table 3.7.3 OSG Page 41

Unfortunately there is no space to fit a separate SPD, as it's all in a cupboard with the meter above the front door.

A type 1 SPD is for installations with an LPS
A type 2 would be more appropriate

The reason I opted for a type one was because the OP was questioning the use of mixed units in the CU , and an upfront SPD may be the answer, looking again though your choice has it's merits a good call on your part.

Got a reply from MK.
Although they do not make a SPD they have approved one by Phoenix Contact, but can only find it at RS at the cost of £283.82.
Only four times the price of a fully loaded board in Screwfix.
