Me personally? Fall in line. And I would be happy to do so.
It's not about fighting change just for the sake of it mate. It#s about fighting stupid change that does no one any good.
Everyone knows that there are a couple of causes of CU fires. The material they're made of is not the issue.
If you are a member of a scheme and they stipulate that 960~ glow wire tested DB's do not meet the requirements of amendment 3 what do you do then? Go on and keep fitting them regardless or fall in to line and fit metal DB's?
1. Agreed
2. I never mentioned anything about steel or any other material. My point was some seem to just want to fight any change. I really could not care less what the material is as long as it complies next year. BEAMA have said that plastic enclosures meeting the 960 degree glow wire test and built to BS EN 61439-3 will not be classed as non-combustable under the regulation so there is still mixed messages here. No doubt further clarification will be needed.
Completely agree. But far more money orientated minds than mine have put their heads together and decided it is what needs to be done. So I just get on and do it knowing that if I follow their advice they will have my back. (Hopefully lol)
Lol! So those far greater minds haven't thought of introducing an amendment to the relevant BS so that 2 terminal screws are required. Nor have they addressed the real issue, loose terminations.Completely agree. But far greater minds than mine have put their heads together and decided it is what needs to be done. Not forgetting the "REDS & BROWNS GO ERE!!", "BLACKS & BLUES GO ERE!!" Stickers
i have never installed a plastic ccu, i have installed a few metal db's thoughAt what point do you think people will stop fitting them I guess? I frm now on will try to push the metal as would like to fit one!
Corrected that for you.

Absolute genius. (not)
Aye, your lass says you've got a canny heed for money. She reckons there's a slot in it

I'll continue to fit compliant plastic CUs. NB the mention of steel as a non combustible material is only an example. Nowhere in the regs does it say you must not fit plastic ones.I admire your passion. So what are you going to do about it?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C1kGDhu0Fso
hager video of the new board. Looks like maxi trunking to keep everything tidy. Im sure they will start selling non combustable trunking too...
Mmmm, lovely, no mention of fire proof entries to it though.
Does your name have any significance in this matter?
I've worked in Essex mate, I know what it's like.Hahaha. I must admit I did have to read that a few times. I am from Essex so speak the Queen's English geeeeza!

Unless you know better of course mate.
At the same time, a pressure group could be formed of like minded individuals who object to this stupidity. Once the ball got rolling it could be very hard to stop. As you can tell I believe in people power

Can your lass say the same? For the record I do not own Ugg boots.
For the record I do not own Ugg boots.
You haven't mate, others have though because they're sheep. Maybe you're really a Geordie, how old are you?So you will install amendment 3 compliant boards. So will I. At no point have I said anything about metal or any other material. As long as it complies. I am happy.
What about a fake tan? Lol
Can your lass say the same?![]()

BEAMA clarifies the new consumer unit regulation in BS 7671:2008 Amendment 3 | Voltimum UK
Thats me fudged as I'm also a member of the ECA.
“A further point for clarification is that plastic enclosures manufactured from 960 degree glow-wire rated material would not be classified as ‘non-combustible’ in the context of this regulation.
Taken from the BEAMA blurb on the above link....
Yet as far as i understand it, Nothing in the new Regulations mentions anything about the 960 degree glow-wire rated material. .....Now i wonder WHY that is??
You tell ME!! Perfectly acceptable in the rest of Europe, that use plastic based CU/DB's far, far more than you do in the UK!! Perhaps all those European countries are wrong and BEAMA/IET are the only ones that are right, ....But i very much doubt it.
I don't know the answer TBH. I just make sure my installations abide to BS7671. The reg guys do their job and I do mine. I have not got the time to write an alternative version of the regs and submit it through all the channels etc. So I made a decision to just let them do it and I will just buy one instead. It is what I signed up for when I chose this career. There are many laws and rules I do not agree with in my country but I would also expect if I were PM I would bring in some rules that others would despise. I would hazard a guess that those moaning about this reg are probably just doing so for the sake of moaning and are far outweighed by opinions of the opposite.
I'd hazard a guess that you couldn't be more WRONG!!
It's basically attitudes like yours, why the UK industry is now flooded with chancers calling themselves electricians, rather than getting up off their arse and doing anything about it...
That seems a little rich coming from someone who doesn't even live here.
I agree entirely, you sometimes have to stand back to see the bigger picture!wrong!!! from the outside, eng54 can see what some here can't see wood for't trees.
The 'Insulated Lobbyist Party' will be standing at the next General Election. Apparently part of their manifesto, is to return to the golden olden days of plastic consumer units. They are a group of noble engineers & apprentice served electricians.
Our reporter has found one major flaw in their intentions....nobody will be making plastic ones any time soon!
Just fit the metal ones and have done with it. Wonder if they come in different colours?![]()
