I'm working on a property with a tncs supply which has the dno cut out in an outbuilding about 20 metres away from the house. They have had a boiler installed in said outbuilding which is connected from the main house via some swa for electrical controls and insulated pvc pipe for the water.House is supplied from 100A enclosed main switch in outbuilding has dual rcd board and the tncs earth has been exported to house. Now the outbuilding also has sockets and lighting installed which are not rcd protected.Do i need to put the ccts in the outbuilding on an rcd? Is it ok to export the tncs in this way?

This should be good :)

To extend or export................... only from outbuilding to house this time instead of other way round lol.

BIG bag of popcorn already ordered:wink_smile:

What do you mean by exporting the tncs? The consumer side of a tncs is a regular seperate L N and E. The E and N 'combine' (hence the C in tncs) within the DNO head. Could you clarify pls.
12am sockets should be on Rcd if used by unskilled persons. Wiring should be on Rcd if concealed within walls. If its surface, the wiring doesn't need to be Rcd protected.

Extraneous conductive parts in both buildings must be bonded back to the MET in a minimum of 10mm as they are effectively part of the same installation. As long as the distribution circuit over to the house meets the requirements,or a separate bonding conductor is installed the TNCS earth can be used.

Cheers the the useful input wp Perhaps i should have worded my question regarding rcd protection in the outbuilding a little differently. attempt 2:The customer is a tight --- and does not want to pay for a new db for the existing electrical installation in the outbuilding. Even though the house part of the installation meets 17th ed regs the outbuilding does not so do i need to ensure that supplementary equipotential bonding is in place in the house. Cheers

you've not said what work you are doing. it's only your work that needs to comply with 17th. also what type of DB supplies the outbuilding sockets etc. fuses or MCBs?

Sorry Darren,I'm a little cofused. You've gone from a query about RCD's in the outbuilding to supplementary bonding in the house. Can you explain the extent of the work you are doing as Tel has asked and it may be clearer.
