Hi guys

How much would you charge for

# Fit and wire 1x bathroom fan (fan supplied)
# Fit and wire a new 10.5kw shower (20m run, shower supplied)
# Bonding to gas and water (25m run, part in pvc conduit)
# Tails & earthing upgrade
# Test & certificate?

Plus no rcd for fan so run throught a rcd spur

Are you having to core drill for the fan??

Also is there a lot of chasing in for the shower cable? Are you making good after?

If so, I would charge around the £400 mark if there were no obvious problems which could arise.

I wouldn't do it, but i think someone would do it for £300.00. (with supplying materials) if the main objective was to get it done as cheap as possible, which it probably would be.

Got to be around the £400 mark me thinks m8
Great Minds etc etc

I think you would struggly to get a certified electrician to do it for much less as the costs for materials (10mm cable, 10mm earth, clamps, RCD, plaster/filler etc) could be around the £70 mark, core drilling can take a few hours if your unlucky, and then testing it.

I have to admit when I first saw your post I thought £500 but then priced it as a best case senario. Keep in mind if you have to spend an few hours moving furniture, lifting carpets/floorboards etc, it could go into a day and a half.

I would alow 2 days labour alone dependant on ease of runs ;) so thats £400 before bits plus 25% mark up on materials :D

Cheers guys

I did core drill it but I'm not plastering as this is being done anyway it took me 1.5 days to get in so I charged £380 and the company I did it for, asked for a brake down so wondered thought I might of charged to much but not now cheers:p

I think £400 is very realistic.

Including materials.

However, if times were different, then yes, nearer 500

:)

Been to a job today for the same company, to put some spot lights in and a feed for a mirror in a bathroom.

No main earth
No main bonding to gas or water
No RCD
Old rewireable fuses

Told them there need a P.M.E. fitting before I touch it, They asked if I could fit and just leave disconnected:rolleyes:. Told them not really. They come out with a snide comment about printing money because the last job I did for them, they didn't expect the cost for the bonding.

I told them I didn't know what the last electrician did about the bonding but, it needs to be in place before any work begins. They said he just use to make a note on the certificate and just do the work anyway:eek:.

I'm sure this isn't aloud. What's your guys thoughts:o

Yr right m8, bonding to services to be upgraded before any work commences. As for no main earth I would put it in writing to the customers stating its unsafe, covers yr arse.

In some cases of minor works bonding need not be upgraded a note on cert will suffice but if eic issued then bonding needs updated

131.8

No adddition or alterteration, temporary or permanent, shall be made to an existing installation, unless it has been ascertained that the rating and the condition of any existing equipment, including that of the distributor, will be adequate for the altered circumstances. Furthermore, the EARTHING AND BONDING arrangements, if necessary for the protective measure applied for the safety of the addition or alteration, shall be adequate.

So if you were replacing like for like you'd upgrade bonding to current regs. Im talking about bonding in general not referring to the ops spotlights? Cheers

I was taught that you should upgrade the bonding before carrying out any works on a property. The reg says that it should be 'adequate', but, looking at some of the comments on the forum, as long as you leave the installation in no worse a condition than you found it then that is ok? Maybe someone can confirm?? :)

I would say doesn't need upgrading as long as currently installed, as long as all your new bits meet current regs and you've done all you can to push them to having it upgraded. If you went along and there was NO main bonding at all then it needs putting in to meet current standards, otherwise I would walk away.

wow.
first thing i ever ever do on an installation is check out bonding, thats rectified before work commences

That the same with me, But this company as been giving quotes to their customers without even asking an electrician to survey the property first. And the imprestion I get is they want me two put my head on the block by cutting corners so they can keep their prices down.

He even told me they use to have an electrician round to price at the same time as them selfs but it scared the customers off:o. I'm not into doing half hearted jobs:rolleyes:.

Try and find another company as quickly as possible it's a slippery slope, learning bad habits etc, not saying you have or you will but it starts to grate and you'll find yourself getting more and more frustrated trying to make things legit :(

Most kitchen companies i work for do that.

I now ask what they have "allowed" for alterations, and if its not enough, i refuse the job.

They soon come running :D

were quite fortunate as most of the work we do is insurance work, and they want it right each and every time - no corners cut.
where as on other jobs they dont want to pay for an rcbo never mind bonding - they pay or we leave.

It just seems as if most companys are trying it on at the mo. I was starting to think it was just me, but my price seems to be very fair compared to other I know in the area:o.
