How to become a college lecturer

basic at the college was not as good as i get now but used to make loads doing extra tutorials and jobs on the side. the tutorials have dried up now so i am a bit poorer now but a lot happier.

unfortunately im in blackpool.Popped into local college today to have a chat,they said no jobs at moment but keep in touch.
What kind of money do lecturers make?

is there a different qualification for teaching in scotland other than the PGCE (Cert Ed). and can anyone recommend where to get this qualification cant seem to find any place up here that runs it.

In England the PGCE and the Cert Ed. are the same qualification but have different entry requirements.

To be awarded a PGCE you must have a BSc, Beng. or BA before you start; to be awarded a Cert Ed. you only need to have qualifications and / or experience in your vocational subject, usually a couple of years above the level you propose to teach.

If you want a BEd. you'll need to do an extra year or two after your PGCE or Cert Ed.

However, it does help if you have electrical qualifications to teach electrical theory and practice

thanks ackbarthestar. i have wanted to do it since i finished my apprenticeship but felt it would help if i had a good bit of experience behind me first. that was 8 years ago. always found it difficult to get any info on getting into it.

also dont think it will help me any that the local college who had roughly 45 electrical apprentices when i was there, only had an intake of 7 this year.

And i bet all they wanted to become, was ''Domestic Installers'' too... Really Sad state our industry has become these days. Deskilling will be the death of this great industry!!

Hasn't deskilling killed it already and given the perception that electrics aren't so complicated as you might think

If only people realised that "Little knowledge is a dangerous thing!!" when dealing with electricity
